International Journal for Small and Medium Enterprises (IJSME) is dedicated to the formulation, development, implementation and evaluation of small business policy. It publishes researched articles and case studies to explore strategies for the sustainable growth of SMEs.
Papers for publication in IJSME are put through rigorous plagiarism check and peer reviews to ensure originality, timeliness and relevance. Selected conference papers that require wider exposure are also published at the discretion of the Editors.
The objectives of this journal are as follows:
- To assist and inform those responsible for the sustainable development of SMEs by generating a debate on the key challenges confronting the sector.
- To highlight case studies on small business experiences including success stories and practical advice.
- To inform disseminate research findings and studies on the sector as part of ISSME’s effort to guide the formulation and implementation of policies for small businesses.
- To bridge a gap between theory and practice of small and medium enterprise development.
The Journal encourages its contributors to identify issues and problems raised by their work and to develop the practical and research implications for those involved in the field of SME development.

A range of subject areas have has been identified for publication in the Journal that includes Government initiatives, policies & programs; case studies; best practices; SME financing and venture capital; research in SMEs, entrepreneurship and family-run businesses; training and capacity development for SMEs; small business growth and successful enterprises, etc.
They include entrepreneurs, policy makers and academics working in and for the SME sector, ISSME members, affiliates and partners, small business advisors, national Governments, SME promotional agencies, industry associations, UN Agencies, international and regional organisations, banks and financial institutions, business incubations, family-run businesses, research centers, universities, academics and students.
